OUR MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do we choose a contractor?

The main things you should look for are quality, reputation and value.  When you open your door to strangers, you want to feel confident you made the right choice for your family and home.  Choose one with a reputation for professionalism, on-time and on-budget projects. That way you can feel confident that you have not put yourself in a difficult financial or emotional situation with an open-ended contract and an unknown builder.

What about Budgeting?

Once you find a builder and designer you trust and are confident of their abilities, you can work together to develop a plan that fits your budget.  Sharing your budget with a professional remodeler allows you to plan the design and scope of work around your financial requirements.  It’s important to note, industry standards conclude that 70% of projects with estimated budgets go anywhere from 15% to 100% over budget and 60% go over their timelines. That is why it is important to know and trust your builder and designer…you don’t want this happening to you.

And what makes Peregrine Design/Build different than just a builder?

We are a design/build company, which combines design, product selection, management and construction into one process.  At Peregrine we do all this at a fixed cost price so there are no surprises in the beginning, middle or end of the project.  As for design, our architect and design team work with you to enhance your ideas to fit your home, lifestyle and budget. What it includes is a full design, with multiple design options and choices before the final design is selected.  We use 3-D color renderings and blueprints so you get a true feel for your design. Then, we help you with product selection and interior finishes with one of our interiors specialists.  When the design phase is done, you will have construction ready prints with an integrated specification and finish schedules.  Our professional crew and sub-contactors will create a specific work schedule and installation timeline that will give you a step-by-step understanding of what will be happening to your home and when.  After the project is complete, we back it up with our warranty program.

Do you do construction only for architects and designers?

Yes we do. We enjoy the opportunity to work with architects and designers on their custom home projects and large remodeling projects. We find that our project management system works well for a smooth construction process.

What about your costs?

Peregrine Design/Build costs are in-line with Remodeling Magazine’s survey of remodeling costs for the Burlington area.  Our prices are equal to other quality remodelers--not always their quoted price but their final price.  Why? Because, we do 100% of the planning upfront, so you are not surprised in the middle of the project with a new price or design--which is notoriously known to happen with estimated bids. Sometimes it is not easy to hear the “real” number right away but it allows you to control the costs and the project before it begins. Making changes, if necessary, before construction begins is always easier.

What is the value with working with you?

We believe our mission statement speaks to our value:  Peregrine’s mission is to provide our clients with an exceptional design and building experience through honesty, a world class management system, uncompromising quality and commitment.  We find that our clients take great comfort in our professional experience and knowing who is in their home.  Given most remodeling projects are conducted with the family still living in the home; we take great care in making sure we are respectful of your privacy and your home.

What is your warranty program?

We don’t want to see you doing expensive repairs five years, ten years, even fifty years down the road. We know in the long run, lesser quality construction and design is costly, especially if you work with someone who doesn’t have a warranty program. That is why we do it right the first time and we stand behind our work. If something goes wrong with our work we will come back and fix it. Our warranty is for a full year after your project. But even years after a project has been completed, we have been known to go out of our way to make sure everything is working just right.

Doesn’t everyone do quality construction and design?

Unfortunately not everyone does. To get the job, some contractors give you a low price without even looking into the details of the project. They may use lesser quality materials or shortcuts in the building process to save money, which in the end will cost you, when you have to do repairs in the future. (Some things as simple as window flashing and priming can make a huge difference in the life of your home.) For us, quality design and construction go hand in hand, not just our own team but the sub-contactors we hire.  We know their work and we believe they will provide you the best quality product and service.

How can I be sure you are the right fit for me?

The best way for you to see if Peregrine is right for you is to talk to our past clients and see our work.  In an industry where customer satisfaction is around 28%, in an independent customer survey, our clients said they would recommend us 100% of time.  That is why it is not a surprise that 94% of our jobs come from past clients and referrals.

How far in advance should we start planning our project?

We advise you to start planning at least six months in advance. One reason is a quality builder is booked at least four to eight months in advance.  Also, zoning and permitting may be an issue for your home and needs to be submitted in a timely fashion. The design and product selection stage also takes time, with a variety of drafts for you to review and perfect.  Then the coordination of the crew and subcontractors need to be done in advance so that you are never waiting around in the middle of a job for someone to show up.   A good builder has planned everything out so that they are most efficient with your time and money!

What if I’m not sure about doing a project?

Just call us…we will give you honest advice to your questions.  We would be happy to meet with you and if we feel we are not the company for you, we’ll point you in the right direction.
